The town of Apex was incorporated in 1873 and named for its location at the highest point along a 30 mile section of the Chatham Railroad, which runs from Richmond, Virginia to Jacksonville, Florida. Apex remained a sleepy little town into the early 1960s but as nearby Research Triangle Park grew, the town experienced unprecedented growth during the 1990s. With its charming downtown, top rated schools and a great sense of community, it is easy to understand why in August 2015, TIME magazine ranked Apex #1 on its list of the nation’s top places to live.
Downtown Apex features antique & specialty gift shops, as well as many restaurants. Residents and visitors enjoy First Fridays, weekly farmers markets, the annual jazz festival and the PeakFest street fair which, with hundreds of vendors, draws over 20,000 people to the downtown streets and is the town’s largest public event each year.
The 13,000 square foot, 4 tiered skate park – Trackside Skate Plaza – and the 2 acre dog park at Hunter Street Park prove that there is something for everyone in the family friendly town of Apex!
